VENICE, CALIFORNIA – May 2003 – In approaching the Intranet for its BioScience division, Baxter wanted to create the Intranet as a key resource to facilitate the work experience, fulfilling its internal communications tagline: Work. Made Better. The Intranet services over 10,000 employees internationally and is available via Web browser or kiosk, requiring a structure geared to a touch screen environment as well as a browser environment.
A combination of focus group feedback, a thorough Web log analysis that showed how employees were interacting with the Intranet and a full content inventory provided the basis for restructuring the information, documents, tools and resources in an intuitive way that fit the needs of the users.
The Intranet interface needed to adhere to many design and structural requirements set by Baxter's corporate standards, while still be usable, user-friendly and used. The navigation is designed for use on both PC and kiosks. Each page is 7K, allowing the fastest download times possible. The page templates are designed to be integrated with a content management system for dynamic and multi-lingual content generation.
The result aims to be much more than a library of documents and static information. Integrated with a content management system, the Intranet will be a dynamic resource that pushes relevant, useful content that reinforces the International Baxter community, highlights the vast, exciting new products and activities, promotes employee-focused programs and serves as a necessary tool of the work environment.
